Dennis has had a long career in journalism, politics, and public relations. A native of Maine, he graduated with a BA in journalism from the University of Maine and has a master’s degree in strategic public relations from George Washington University. He first worked as a reporter for the Lewiston Daily Sun, then moved on to other newspapers, including the influential weekly Maine Times and the Portland Press Herald, where he covered the statehouse in Augusta.
Dennis entered politics in 1990 when he joined the congressional campaign of Democratic State Senator Tom Andrews. He later became Andrews's communications director for his first term in the U.S. House and reelection campaign. In 1994, independent Angus King asked Dennis to join his campaign for governor. After King’s upset victory, Dennis served for six years as his communications director.
In 2000, Dennis launched Savvy, Inc., a boutique public relations firm in Portland, Maine that represented dozens of clients, including businesses, law firms, political candidates, and state and local referendum campaigns, securing coverage in local and national publications, including USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe and many more. He gained prominence for his work as a strategic advisor to CasinosNO! in its successful opposition to a Maine gambling casino in 2003. He later served as a consultant on anti-casino efforts nationwide.
Now living in Portugal as a digital nomad, Dennis continues to advise clients and campaigns, providing content for blogs, news releases, social media posts, and speeches.
